Shiny Happy People

Shiny happy people laughing
Meet me in the crowd
People people
Throw your love around
Love me love me
Take it into town
Happy happy
Put it in the ground
Where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing

These are the lyrics to that lovely REM song that I had to think of tonight on my way home. Today has been a very happy day for my neighbourhood, hom of the Arsenal football team. Their new Emirates Stadium (to be officially openend on Thursday by HM the Queen) is only about a 10 minute walk from our house. It seats 60,432 people and they were all on the streets tonight celebrating Arsenal's 2:0 win over Porto while trying to get home. I was on the bus, which got stuck in the middle. It was quite something seeing all those people taking over the streets. Made me think once again, of that weird phenomenon that is football and how it unites everyone. Sometimes I wish people could create that same amount of positive energy for other things as well. Peace. Understanding. Protecting the environment. But hey, football is a good start. Go Arsenal!
